New rules of the game

The communicator’s job description has evolved, creating a new set of guidelines for recruiters

Today’s  corporate communicator must constantly juggle the requirements of stakeholders, the media, CEOs and senior management. These demands have resulted in a changing European landscape for communications professionals, which in itself has transformed the recruitment trends within an ever-growing and important industry. Several new trends have come to the fore, such as the increased sophistication of communications professionals: the good all-rounder now needs to be able to deal with the effects of the economic downturn (or upturn, in some cases), the growth of internal communications, and the increasing need for specialist change communication professionals. The convergence of marketing and communication channels also means that clients are searching for value for money within their communication functions and with the people they hire. In addition, the impact of social media has only recently become a board level issue with many communication directors having understood the technology and its permutations.
